Rudy Giuliani is at it again. The president’s chief-of-flak can’t resist an opportunity to spew the company line. The Mueller investigation is a “witch hunt” and a “hoax” according to the Trump hymnal. Today is just another example of just how pathetic Rudy Giuliani has become.
According to The Washington Post, “President Trump’s lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani said Friday that congressional testimony by FBI agent Peter Strzok demonstrated such a bias against Trump that the results of the investigation being led by special prosecutor Robert S. Mueller III should be dismissed.” Giuliani went on to tweet this morning “Peter Strzok’s testimony was a disgrace. It taints the entire Mueller witch hunt. President Trump is being investigated by people who possess pathological hatred for him. All the results of the investigation are ‘fruit of the poison tree’ and should be dismissed.”
I don’t know what hearing Rudy was watching but it must not have been the same one everyone else was. I doubt Rudy could have stayed awake long enough to watch nearly ten hours of testimony. He probably just picked up his talking points from the White House communication folks and proceeded to frantically spin their garbage.
In reality the Joint House Committee hearing on Agent Strzok proved to be an exercise in futility and a waste of time. Despite a blistering and hostile effort by the Republican majority in the hearing, Strzok mounted a credible defense of his actions. After eleven hours of previous testimony in a closed hearing and the ten that Strzok had somehow politically biased the Mueller investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election. While Strzok admitted he had made mistakes, he in no way allowed those views to influence his conduct as an intelligence professional. House Intelligence Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) launched a15-minute harangue which could only be characterized as a political tirade in his unsuccessful quest to intimidate Strzok. House Judiciary Committee Chairman, Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) demonstrated a total lack of civility toward his Democrat colleagues’ parliamentary procedure complaints, leaving no doubt about the unfairness of the hearing. However, the low point in the hearing was when Louis Gomert (R-TX) decided to bring into the hearing a reference to Strzok’s admitted extramarital affair and questioning his character saying “I can’t help but wonder when I see you looking there with a little smirk, how many times did you look so innocent into your wife’s eye and lie to her?” he said. This caused an uproar to break out, causing Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ) to demand, “Do you need your medication?” A comprehensive article of the Thursday hearing offered by The New York Times can be found here.
Rudy Giuliani continues to foster the distraction antics of the Trump administration and their Republican zealots in Congress. Once again, he is found to be on a fool’s errand. Paraphrasing the immortal words of Walter Shobak (John Goodman) in the film The Big Lebowski, “STFU Rudy, you are out of your element!” Enough said.
