Kim would like nothing more than to meet with Trump. It would give him something neither his father nor grandfather could accomplish – a meeting with the president of the United States and in Kim’s mind a recognition of North Korea as a legitimate nuclear power. No American president has ever done this in an official capacity. Trump agrees with a simple impulsive “yes.”
We can only speculate why Trump won’t authorize a counter-attack on Russia for its inference in the 2016 election and the current threats to the 2018 mid-terms. We will have to wait for Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation to conclude to thoroughly discern what President Trump’s motivation for inaction is. The question then becomes can we afford to wait another three, six, or more months to find out?
Last month was Black History Month. It is a time to recognize the accomplishments and contributions that African-Americans have made to our country. Over fifty years ago, a very significant and courageous contribution was made in Birmingham, Alabama. It was made by African-American children! Children who were fed up with the injustices of segregation in the most segregationist city in Alabama. The protest that lasted several days was called “The Children’s March.” On May 2, 1963, over a thousand school children left their classrooms and marched into history.
Here is the message: Democrats, many Independents and disaffected Republicans are fed up with the current Trump administration, the do-nothing Republican Congress (except for lining the pockets of their big corporate donors) and to be fair Democrat congressional leadership who have been around too long and need to retire.
Mueller indictments may require some time on your part. If you read the entire text of the indictment document, you will have accomplished three important things.
What makes the case of treason difficult under the definition stated in the Constitution of the United States in Article III is the phrase “levying War against them”, meaning the states of the United States. The framers of the Constitution 240 years ago would not have been able to envision the digital world we live in of computers, social media, trolls and bots, cyber-attacks, and the ability to spread misinformation with lighting speed to millions of viewers on the internet.
I have always thought, and my experience has confirmed that better decisions, solutions and political debate occurs when women hold an active part in determining legislative policies. Unfortunately, in today’s political climate women play a minority role from state and local government to the halls of Congress. Women are the majority in this country, yet when have you ever seen women hold anything close to a majority in your state legislature or either house in Congress? The answer is obvious. Never! That is about to change, and we will all be better for it.
Given the almost universal consensus of credible sources that the Russians at the direction of Putin cyber-attacked the United States, it is incredible that the president of the United States has not formally acknowledged the attacks and at the very least taken some form of punitive action against Russia.
On January 2. 2017, the Obama White House issued this statement. “Russia’s cyber activities were intended to influence the election, erode faith in US democratic institutions, sow doubt about the integrity of our electoral process, and undermine confidence in the institutions of the US government. These actions are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
America is not perfect. It never has been. But it is still the best hope for those who wish to leave their ancestral homes and seek a new life in an unknown land. And those who breed fear and bigotry have no sense of what this country has been all about since its beginning two and a half centuries ago. The question at this time in our history is whether or not we will call on our “better angels” to turn back those intent on dividing us on basis of the color one’s skin rather than the character of one’s soul.
